Long Course Highlights: 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier in the 200- and 400-meter freestyles...member of 2011 U.S. Swimming national champion 800-meter freestyle relay team...earned that gold medal at August 2011 U.S. Nationals...competes for SwimMAC...his second leg of the national champion relay was a 1:50.55...placed 23rd in 400-meter freestyle at 2011 U.S. Nationals in 3:55.89 (previous best time was 3:58.68).
2011-12: All-ACC Team member...placed third in the 500-yard freestyle at ACC Championships in a time of 4:22.69...was also ninth in the 200 freestyle (1:37.13) and 14th in the 1650 freestyle (15:36.78) at ACC meet...swam on 800 free relay team which placed second at league championships...named to All-ACC Academic Men's Swimming Team for the second straight year...honorable mention All-America selection as member of Carolina's 800-yard freestyle relay team...that relay team placed ninth at the NCAA Championships in a time of 6:25.70...also swam on Carolina's 200-yard medley relay which placed 15th at NCAAs...had an excellent 2011 Nike Cup meet...won the title in the 500 free (4:23.13), second in the 1650 free (15:24.53), third in the 200 free (1:38.09) and 12th in the 100 free (46.23)...also swam on a Nike Cup champion 800 freestyle relay team.
2010-11: Named to ACC Academic Honor Roll...earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic Men's Swimming Team...placed fifth in the 500 freestyle in 4:22.81 and seventh in the 200 freestyle in 1:36.85 at the 2011 ACC Championships...also placed 21st in the 100 free in 45.30 and swam on 800 free relay team which earned conference runners-up honors... one of nine national finalists for 2010-11 Male Breakout Swimmer of the Year Award.
Prep: Graduated from North Mecklenburg High School on June 15, 2010...swam for his high school from 2007-10 and for his club team beginning in 2001...was coached at NMHS by Tim Queen...his club coaches included Thad Schultz, Chris Webb and David Marsh...was captain of high school team as a senior...that year he placed second in the North Carolina 4A state meet in the 200 and 500 freestyles...finished third in both events his junior year...as a senior was named the I-MECK Conference swimmer of the year...paced North Mecklenburg to the 2009 NC 4A title and to conference titles each of his four years...as a club swimmer he was named a three-year Scholastic All-America...2009 Junior National Team member...the 2010 Southeastern Sectionals champion in the 200 freestyle...his club team won the men's junior national title in 2009...was a member of an 800-meter free relay team which won junior national title in 2009...swam on 800-yard free relay unit which established a national age group record...A/B honor roll student all four years.

Section #1: Swimming & Diving
1. The best thing about being a Tar Heel swimmer is being part of a great team.
2. My favorite thing about competing for Coach DeSelm is his dedication towards helping the team improve.
3. Since last year the aspect of my training I've worked on the most is turns.
4. My best friend on another college swimming team is Jake Matysek of NC State.
5. My greatest strength as a swimmer is my kicking.
Section #2: Hobbies & Interests
1. Away from the pool and academic pursuits I like to spend time hanging out, playing other sports.
2. The best movie I've seen recently is The Avengers.
3. If I could compete in another sport at UNC it would be basketball.
4. The music act I'd most like to see in person is Eminem.
5. The personal interest I have that might surprise my teammates is playing golf.

1. After a big meet, I'd like to eat at a buffet spread that included steak, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and garlic bread.

3. My favorite food made by a relative is my Mom's tacos.

1. If I possessed the gift of time travel I'd like to go to when I was a kid and didn't have to worry about anything.
