General - Three year letterman returns after an outstanding junior season... Likely to hold down the #1 or #2 position in the singles draw and compete in the doubles line-up... Won the Ralph Whittikar Collegiate tournament last fall by defeating Virginia Commonwealth's Franciso Sanchez in three sets... Also recorded two wins in the Continental Airlines Cup held at Rice University... Won four matches in three days in the qualifying rounds at the ITA All-American Championships with doubles partner Marcio Petrone.
As a Junior - Won the ACC Flight #3 Singles Championship with a 7-1 record in conference dual matches... Clinched UNC's 4-3 win at South Carolina with a 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Olaf Akesson... Also had significant wins over Duke's Andres Pedroso and Wake Forest's Raul Munoz... Defeated Clemson's Luis Garcia 6-2, 6-3 to lead UNC's comeback from a 3-1 deficit to beat Clemson in the ACC Tournament semifinals... Compiled an impressive 15-5 singles record against Region II opponents... Led the Tar Heels in doubles wins with 16... Teamed with senior Tripp Phillips to win six of eight matches at #1 and #2 doubles... Won three matches in Pre-Qualifying at the All-American Championships in Austin with teammate Trystan Meniane... As a Sophomore - Compiled a 17-16 singles record, playing 10 matches at the #1 and #2 singles position in the line-up... Was the ACC Runner-Up at #3 singles with a 5-2 record... Was 14-11 in Region II competition... Had significant singles wins over Virginia's John Winter, Wake Forest's Michael Berger and Georgia Tech's Romain Coirault... Ranked as high as 15th in the region in doubles with Michael Grass.
As a Freshman - In doubles play, posted an impressive 12-3 overall record... With senior Tony Thomas, defeated the #2-ranked Georgia Bulldogs #3 doubles duo 8-2 for his best doubles win of the year... In spring 1998, played #6 singles for five matches and #5 singles for two matches... Had a strong showing against Amr El Sawf of the nationally ranked Florida Gators, where he won the #5 slot in straight sets 7-5, 6-2... An impressive doubles player, he went 9-1 in twosomes in the fall 1997 season, including a 5-0 showing with Thomas... Captured the USC Fall Invitational doubles championship in October 1997 with Thomas.
