CHAPEL HILL -- With one regular season contest remaining, North Carolina ranks No. 22 in the latest edition of the NCAA RPI. The Tar Heels are 23-9 overall, the most wins since 2005, and 14-5 in the ACC. UNC is also receiving three votes in the AVCA coaches' poll released Monday.
Carolina is one of seven ACC teams rated in the RPI top-60. Other ACC schools include Duke (No. 12), Miami (No. 24), Florida State (No. 25), Virginia Tech (No. 41), Maryland (No. 56) and Clemson (No. 60). The ACC is second only to the Big Ten, who registers nine teams in the RPI top-60.
The Tar Heels also rank in the top-15 nationally in three statistical categories. UNC is fifth in ranks 10th nationally with 5.56 per set on the year.
Carolina also ranks tenth in the country in assists (14.35 per set).
Carolina has secured a second place finish in league play after defeating Clemson and Georgia Tech this weekend. The Tar Heels have won 14 matches at home this season, which is the most since a perfect 18-0 mark in 2002. UNC will conclude the regular season slate hosting NC State Friday at noon from Carmichael Arena.
