Mary Brunk joined the UNC Academic Support Program staff in the summer of 2003. She serves as the academic counselor for the men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's fencing, women's golf, field hockey and baseball teams, as well as coordinating awards and postgraduate scholarships for the department.
A native of Washington, D.C., Brunk earned her undergraduate degree at Wake Forest, where she majored in sociology and minored in Asian studies. While there, she served as a manager for the men's basketball team and as a tutor for student-athletes.
Brunk went on to earn a master's degree in counseling with a concentration in student development in higher education from UNC Greensboro. She interned at Elon, where she worked with the academic support/CHAMPS Life Skills program, before joining the North Carolina staff.
Brunk is engaged to Matt Weeden. The two will marry in June of 2004.
