After interning in the UNC Academic Support Program while earning her master's degree, Rachel Melchiorre returned as a fulltime staff member in 2002. She serves as an academic counselor for several Olympic sports teams and also coordinates the department's scholarships and awards.
A native of Hilliard, Ohio, Melchiorre earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Tennessee Tech. There, she was a four-year letterwinner in volleyball, earning all-conference and third-team Academic All-America honors.
She earned a master's in sport administration from UNC in 2001 then served as Assistant Director for Student-Athlete Services at Bowling Green from May of 2001 until September of 2002, when she returned to Chapel Hill.
Melchiorre is engaged to Zack Lassiter, who works in the UNC ticket office. The two will be married in June.
