Alex Funderburke joined the Carolina Athletics staff in November 2024 as the Associate Director of Media Relations and Content Creation, working primarily with the volleyball and softball programs.

Prior to arriving in Chapel Hill, Funderburke served as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Army West Point. With the Black Knights, he served as the primary contact for a men’s lacrosse program that made the 2023 NCAA Quarterfinals and peaked at No. 1 in the national polls in 2024. He was also the primary contact for the men’s basketball, women’s soccer, cross country/track and field, and sprint football programs.

Before West Point, he got his professional career started at UCF, his alma mater, serving as a Strategic Communications Assistant before being promoted to Assistant Director of Strategic Communications in August 2022. Funderburke served as the primary contact for the women's soccer, baseball, spirit, track and field/cross country, and volleyball programs with the Knights.

In his time at UCF, he was a part of a women's soccer regular season American Athletic Conference Championship and NCAA Tournament run.

A 2022 graduate of UCF, Funderburke worked as a Strategic Communications Intern for UCF Athletics for three years of his undergraduate studies. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in human communication and minored in journalism studies.

During his time at UCF, he also served as a host on the Hitting the Field Network, a student program geared to help students aiming to break into the sports media industry. He was also a site manager at Forgotten 5, a website dedicated to covering the Group of Five conferences. While an intern with UCF Athletics, Alex primarily helped with women's basketball, track and field, and baseball.
