Career Best Times: 51.98 in 100 back; 1:50.59 in 200 back; 2:05.37 in 200 breast; 51.40 in 100 fly; 1:48.71 in 200 fly; 1:49.70 in 200 IM; 3:50.75 in 400 IM (2nd in school history).
General: One of Carolina's most versatile swimmers...a three-time returning lettermen whose best events are the two IMs...he can also be counted on to swim fast times in the fly, back and breast.
Long Course Highlights: Competed in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200 and 400-meter individual medley events.
2009-10 (Junior): All-ACC Academic selection...named to Dean's List in fall semester 2009 and spring semester 2010...earned membership on 2010 ACC Academic Honor Roll...finished fourth in the ACC Championships in the 400 IM with a time of 3:50.75...was 17th in the 200 fly at 1:49.26 and 20th in the 200 IM at 1:51.05.
2008-09 (Sophomore): Swam career best times in the 400 IM (3:50.77), 200 IM (1:49.70) and 200 fly (1:48.71) at the ACC Championships...his highest placing was ninth in the 400 IM...named to the 2009 ACC Academic Honor Roll.
2007-08 (Freshman): Set a career best time in the 400 IM with a time of 3:51.60 at the ACC Championships, finishing third in the event...his time in the 400 IM put him into third place in school history in the event at the time...was a consolation finalist in the 200 IM at the meet...earned All-ACC honors ... named to the 2008 All-ACC Academic Team.
Prep: Graduated on August 13, 2007 from Lake Braddock High School in Burke, Va. ...a four-year swimming letterman in high school...swam for seven years with the Curl-Burke Swim Club...his high school team finished in second place three years in a row at the state championship meet...individually, he won the 200 IM at the state meet two years in a row and set a state high school record in the process...was the team captain...a high school All-America...made NCSA all-star team.
Personal: Full name is Andrew Jeffrey Brake...the son of Jeff and Marlene Brake...was born September 20, 1988 at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland...has one sister, Meghan, 26...English major.

Section #1: Swimming & Diving
1. The best thing about being a Tar Heel swimmer is being with my teammates.
2. Since my last competitive season, the aspect of my training I've worked on the most is improving my backstroke and freestyle.
3. My best friend on another college swimming team is Alex Spina of University of Maryland.
4. My greatest strength as a swimmer is my versatility.
Section #2: Hobbies & Interests
1. Away from the pool and academics, I like to spend time volunteering with children and those in need.
2. On a long bus trip, I'd like to watch Get Him to the Greek.
3. If I could compete in another sport at UNC it would be golf or soccer.
4. If I received free concert tickets via a radio or internet promotion I would love to see the Rolling Stones.
5. The one interest or hobby I have that people would be surprised to know is cooking.
Section #3: Food
1. After a big meet I'd love to see a buffet spread that included lamb, lasagna Bolognese, salad and popovers.
2. My favorite beverage is tea.
3. I'm allowed to enter a room with unlimited snacks, one room has the salty stuff, the other sweet stuff? Which room do I enter and why? Sweets, once I get started on them I can't stop.
4. My favorite food made by a relative is Capetown South African Lamb made by my Mom.
5. On my birthday, I'd love to be treated by my friends to dinner at Akai Hana.
Section #4: Personality
1. If I possessed the gift of time travel I would go to England in 1700 to see what England was like when it was an empire and meet some of the famous writers of the time.
2. My iTunes library includes 2,000 songs, mostly rock and classic rock.
3. In a perfect world where making money was not a consideration my dream job would be world traveler.
