2011-12: Had a stupendous freshman season...was a semifinalist in the 200-meter butterfly at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, taking 15th place in 1:59.69...tapped for 2012 All-ACC Team...also a 2011-12 All-ACC Academic Team selection in men's swimming...had two Top 12 finishes at the 2012 U.S. Open...placed seventh in the 200-meter butterfly in 2:00.66 and 12th in the 100-meter butterfly in 54.56...at the ACC Championships he finaled in two events...was the league runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly at 1:44.65 and placed eighth in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:48.76...also took 14th in the 100-yard butterfly (48.34) and swam on Carolina's fourth place 400 medley relay team...was twice named the ACC Swimmer of the Week...first earned the award on November 8, 2011 after winning both butterfly events and swimming on the winning 200 medley relay in a dual meet win over Maryland...repeated as ACC Swimmer of the Week on January 24, 2012 and was named TarHeelBlue.com Performer of the Week after dual meet wins against Clemson and Virginia...swept a trio of individual events in the win over the Cavaliers, taking the 200 fly (1:46.79), the 100 fly (49.09) and the 200 IM (1:50.99) after winning the 200 fly and swimming on the winning medley relay team against the Tigers...was arguably Carolina's most consistent swimmer during the dual meet season...was a two-event winner against ECU and Clemson and three-event winner versus Georgia Tech, Maryland and Virginia as well as winning single events against Virginia Tech, Duke and NC State...was spectacular during the 2011 Nike Cup...placed second in the 200 IM (1:49.30) and 200 fly (1:46.47), third in the 100 fly (49.23) and fourth in the 100 breast (56.21)...also swam on the Nike Cup champion 400 medley and 400 freestyle relays and the second place 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relays.
Prep: Was an outstanding recruit who is a native of the Triangle area...was Carolina's top in-state recruit in the Class of 2011...one of the most versatile swimmers to come to Carolina in many years...adept swimmer in all four disciplines...two-time USA National Youth Team member...multiple YMCA national champion...2012 Olympic Trials qualifier in the 100-meter and 200-meter butterfly events...graduated from Green Hope High School in 2011...member of a three-time conference high school championship team...squad also claimed 2011 regional title...competed for two-time YMCA National men's champions at YMCA of the Triangle Area...2010 North Carolina 4A state high school MVP.

1. The best thing about being a Tar Heel swimmer is eating whatever I want.
2. My favorite thing about competing for Coach DeSelm is racing people who are better than me.
3. Since last year the aspect of my training I've worked on the most is my endurance.
4. My best friend on another college swimming team is Michael Hughes.
5. My greatest strength as a swimmer is I love racing.
