Career Best Times: 44.63 in the 100-yard freestyle (10th in school history); 1:36.29 in the 200-yard freestyle (4th in school history); 4:19.99 in the 500-yard freestyle (6th in school history); 9:13.12 in the 1000-yard freestyle; 15:10.75 in the 1650-yard freestyle (7th in school history); 1:50.35 in the 200-yard backstroke.
General: One of the ACC's best swimmers...ranks No. 1 on the 2009-10 UNC preseason depth chart in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:36.29...leads the team as a tri-captain for the men's side...a two time ACC champion in the 200-yard freestyle...can swim any freestyle event from 100 yards through 1650 yards with equal aplomb.
Long Course Highlights: Swam the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter freestyles at the 2009 US Open in Federal Way, Wash.
2008-09 (Junior): Made a successful return to the pool after a redshirt year due to shoulder surgery...was a part of the school record-setting 800-yard freestyle relay team...also swam the 500, 200 and 1650-yard freestyle events at the 2009 ACC Championships, placing 11th (4:22.36), 12th (1:37.31) and 15th (15:26.97) respectively...named to the 2008-09 ACC Academic Honor Roll.
2007-08 (Redshirt Year): Redshirted the entire season to recover from shoulder surgery.
2006-07 (Sophomore): He won the Jamerson Memorial Award as UNC's Most Valuable Swimmer for the second year in a row...was the ACC champion in the 200-yard freestyle for the second season in a row with a time of 1:36.43, meriting him fourth place on Carolina's All-Time Top 10 list...named UNC's Progress Energy Performer of the Week after his performance at the 2007 ACC Championships...a 2007 All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer in both the 200 and 500 freestyle events... swam a career best 4:19.99 while finishing second in the 500 freestyle at the ACC Championships, moving him into sixth place on the All-Time Top 10 list at Carolina...also placed seventh in the 1650 freestyle at the ACC meet...named the ACC Men's Swimming Performer of the Week on January 29, 2007...qualified for and competed at the NCAA Championships in the 200, 500,1650 freestyles and on the 800-yard freestyle relay...during the season he also achieved a career best in the 100-yard free that landed him eighth on the UNC All-Time Top 10 list for the event.
2005-06 (Freshman): ACC Men's Swimming Freshman of the Year...won the ACC championship in the 200-yard freestyle...earned honorable mention All-America honors in 500-yard freestyle by finishing 12th at NCAA Championships...All-ACC in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events...exceled in both the ACC and NCAA Championships, setting career bests in the 500, 1000 and 1650-yard freestyles at NCAAs and the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events at the ACC Championships...ranked No. 1 on UNC's end-of-the-year depth chart in four freestyle events... his 15:10.75 in the 1650-yard freestyle at the NCAA Championships ranked as the third-best time in UNC history... finished sixth in the 1650-yard freestyle and third in the 500-yard freestyle at the ACC Championships...voted Carolina's Most Valuable Swimmer.
Prep: Graduated from Turpin High School in June 2005...the YMCA national champion in the 500, 1000 and 1650-yard freestyles in 2004...high-point winner and Swimmer-of-the-Meet at YMCA Nationals...helped set a YMCA national record in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 2004...member of U.S. Swimming's Junior National Team...competed in 2005 Junior Pan Pacific Games in Hawaii...received the prestigious honor in 2003 of attending a U.S. Swiming Training Camp in Colorado Springs...Ohio state champion in 200 and 500-yard freestyles in 2005...Cincinnati Enquirer Swimmer of the Year in 2005...four-time high school All-America...holds 14 of 20 Turpin High School pool records...holds 20 of the 25 Turpin school records...his high school retired his swimming cap and goggles, placing them in the memorabilia area of the gymnasium...selected to attend the 2004 Anthony Munoz Leadership Conference...editor-in-chief of the Turpin newspaper, The Lancer.
