The leader of a pair of College World Series teams as a player, Josh Horton joined the coaching staff as an undergraduate assistant in January.
Horton was one of the of the best shortstops in college baseball during his three seasons in Chapel Hill from 2005-07. A second-team All-America selection by Baseball America in 2006, Horton led Carolina to back-to-back College World Series appearances, the program's first trips to Omaha since 1989. He hit .395 with 17 doubles and seven homers as a sophomore and was a two-time first-team All-ACC pick in 2006 and 2007.
Horton was drafted in the second round of the 2007 MLB Draft by Oakland and played seven seasons of professional baseball, rising as high as AAA Sacramento in the A's organization.
