A member of the UNC staff since 2013, Marielle vanGelder serves as Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance. VanGelder oversees all aspects of the department's comprehensive compliance program. Her duties include development of policies and procedures, implementation of rules education initiatives, supervision of all monitoring and auditing systems, and administration of UNC's grant-in-aid program.

VanGelder previously worked in compliance at the University of Connecticut and served as Associate Director of Athletics for NCAA Rules Education and Compliance Services. In that role, she coordinated and oversaw recruiting, financial aid, academic eligibility certification and rules education, among other responsibilities.

A 2001 graduate of the University of New Haven, vanGelder was a member of the varsity women's soccer team. She earned a master's degree in kinesiology from UConn in 2004.
