Simon Haake

- Director of Sport Science, Performance Coach
Simon Haake rejoined UNC in January of 2022 after previously working as an assistant strength coach for football from 2011-18. As director of sport science, Haake oversees the development and implementation of sport science initiatives for all 28 sports programs. His role focuses on optimizing athletic performance through providing coaches with data-informed strategies for training, practice and sport.
Between his first and second stints at UNC, Haake worked at Texas A&M University with Olympic sports from 2018-20. Working with the track and field program, Haake helped qualify multiple athletes to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Prior to UNC, Haake worked alongside Brad Deweese at UNC Asheville, directing the strength and conditioning efforts of seven different sports while also competing as a track and field athlete.
A graduate of UNC Asheville with a bachelor’s degree in health and wellness, Haake received his master’s degree in exercise physiology from UNC in 2011. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and is USA-Weightlifting Certified.
Haake currently lives in Chapel Hill with wife, Erika, and their daughter, Mara.
