Vince Ille has served the UNC Department of Athletics as senior associate athletic director since July of 2012. He currently oversees the department’s Compliance Office, Student-Athlete Development, and Student-Athlete Health and Well-Being. Ille is also the athletic department's liaison to the Academic Services Program for Student-Athletes (ASPSA) and manages the department’s participation in the admissions process for all student-athletes as its liaison to the university's Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Ille assists with oversight of the football program and is the primary sport administrator for women’s soccer, softball, men's tennis and wrestling. Ille also helps direct strategic planning for the department.
Before arriving at UNC, Ille spent over 14 years at the University of Illinois, where he was a senior associate athletic director and served as the sport administrator for 10 of the department's 19 varsity sport programs. Ille also supervised the operation of the department's summer camp and clinic program, provided oversight of the operation of the Armory Track and Floor, and served as advisor to the director of athletics and the assistant athletic director for compliance for all significant NCAA and Big Ten rules compliance issues. He was the university's designated Athletics Certification Liaison and managed the institution's participation in the NCAA Division I Athletics Certification process. Ille also served the College of Applied Health Sciences by teaching Introduction to Sport Law to undergraduate sport management majors.
Before beginning his Illinois tenure in 1998, Ille spent over six years (1991-97) as assistant athletic director for compliance and student services at the University of Cincinnati. In addition to compliance responsibilities there, he also coordinated, monitored, and reported the determination of student-athlete eligibility, was the sport administrator for 13 varsity sport programs, served as the department's first CHAMPS/Life Skills Coordinator, and managed the provision of student services for all student-athletes. These services included his creation of the UC TEAM mentorship program, the school's first student-athlete advisory committee, academic awards programs, a student-athlete speaker's bureau and various community outreach projects. Ille also supervised the award of athletics scholarships and on-campus housing for all student-athletes.
Ille was a compliance assistant at the University of Oklahoma from 1989-91, where he also helped administer the athletic department's courtesy car program and its substance abuse education and testing program.
An Oklahoma native, Ille earned a bachelor of business administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1985 and a master of science in sport management from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass., in 1990. He and his wife, Karen, have two children (Jessica and Jennifer) and reside in Chapel Hill.
