Katherine Perry enters her first year as the volunteer assistant coach for the Tar Heels. Perry, a native of Cary, N.C., played for the Tar Heels 2010-11 through 2013-14.
"We are excited to have Katherine as our volunteer coach," says Carolina head coach Jan Mann. "As a recent UNC graduate and a four-year member of the women's golf team, Katherine will provide our current student athletes with great insight into what it takes to be successful in both their golf and academics. Katherine was a great student athlete demonstrating leadership and hard work throughout her collegiate career. She is currently playing professional golf so she will be adding a new dimension to what she can share with our current team members. We are all very pleased that she is keeping close ties with her Carolina family."
In 2012, Perry was selected to the All-ACC team and was named NGCA All-America Honorable Mention. She was a three-time selection to the All-ACC Academic Women's Golf Team (2012-2014) and chosen to the ACC Honor Roll four times (2011-2014). An Exercise and Sport Science and Psychology major, Perry was a Carolina Outreach participant throughout her Tar Heel career and a graduate of the Carolina Leadership Academy's Veteran Leaders program.
During her Tar Heel career, Perry carded seven top-10 and 18 top-25 finishes. She placed third at the 2012 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and tied for third at the 2013 UCF Challenge. She carded two top-six finishes at the ACC Championships - tying for fifth place in 2014 and placed sixth in 2011. Perry tied for eighth place at the 2012 NCAA Championships, tied for 11th at the 2011 NCAA East Regional and tied for 15th at the 2014 NCAA Central Regional.
Perry had an impressive amateur career as well. She was the 2011 North Carolina Women's Amateur Champion and was the runner-up in 2012. She competed in the 2012 U.S. Women's Open and advanced to round of 16 at 2013 North and South Women's Amateur after advancing to the third round in 2011. During her junior career she was the 2009 Girls' N.C. Junior Player of the year. She won the 2010 Carolinas/Georgia Junior Championship and the 2010 N.C. Junior Girls' Championship.
