Ned French is in his second year on the Carolina coaching staff, having joined the Tar Heels in the fall of 2002 from Stetson University in Deland, Fla.
A four-year starter as an outfielder at Stetson from 1996-99, French owns the Hatters' career records for hits, at bats and triples as well as the Trans America Athletic Conference career records for hits, at bats and stolen bases. He was a freshman All-America in 1996 and an all-conference pick in 1996 (second-team), 1997 (first-team) and 1999 (third team).
In 1997, French was an all-star on the Cape Cod champion Wareham Ghatemen.
After graduating from Stetson, French played with the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the Northern League in 1999, missed 2000 recovering from shoulder surgery and last played with the London Werewolves of the Frontier League in 2001.
A game-day staffer at Stetson from 2000-02, French was a part-time administrative assistant with the Hatters during the 2002 season. He also was an assistant coach at Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach, Fla., and spent summer 2002 as an assistant coach with the Coastal Plain League's Gastonia Grizzlies.
A 1995 graduate of Seabreeze High, French was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers organization out of high school.
