A two-year letterwinner at Carolina who helped lead the Tar Heels to the 2011 College World Series, Jesse Wierzbicki is in his first season as an undergraduate assistant. Wierzbicki came to UNC after two successful seasons at Walters State Community College, where he played in the Junior College World Series as a freshman.
Wierzbicki hit .287 with seven home runs and 40 RBIs as a senior member of the 2011 Tar Heel squad that finished 51-16 and advanced to the CWS for the fifth time in six years. In his first season in Chapel Hill, the Newnan, Georgia, native hit .307 with eight homers and 52 RBIs.
Wierzbicki was drafted in the 24th round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros. He spent three seasons in the Astros organization, with his last stop coming with the high-A Lancaster JetHawks in the California League.
