Bracket Set For ACC Field Hockey Championship

UNC is the fifth seed and will open against Wake.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina is the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Championship and will open play Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. against fourth-seeded Wake Forest. The UNC-WFU matchup kicks off the tournament, which will run Nov. 2-5 at the University of Louisville's Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky.
The Tar Heels, 12-4 overall and ranked fifth nationally, have one regular season game remaining, a non-conference matchup on Oct. 29 at Liberty.
Virginia, the defending conference champion, finished 5-1 in ACC play to earn the No. 1 seed and will receive a first-round bye. The winner of the first-round game between UNC and Wake will face the Cavaliers on Nov. 3 at noon.
Duke is seeded No. 2 and will meet No. 7 Boston College in the first round Thursday at 1:30 p.m. The 4 p.m. game pits the host Cardinals, seeded third, against No. 6 seed Syracuse.
The seven ACC field hockey teams have been ranked for the entire season, and six are currently ranked in the top 10.
All six tournament games will be televised live by the league's Regional Sports Networks and will be available online and on mobile devices via ACC Network Extra.

UNC has won 19 ACC titles, most recently in 2015. Last season the Tar Heels finished as the tournament runner-up, falling to Virginia in the championship game.
