Hoffman Earns Another ACC Defensive Honor
October 9, 2017 | Field Hockey
Tar Heel junior Ashley Hoffman has earned Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced Monday by the ACC. Hoffman shares this week's award with Syracuse's Borg van der Velde. SU's Laura Hurff was named ACC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week.
Hoffman and the Tar Heel defense shut out No. 3 Virginia, the nation's top scoring offense, in a 4-0 win on the road on Friday. In addition to the defensive performance, the junior back from Mohnton, Pa., scored what proved to be the game-winning goal just before halftime, putting North Carolina up 1-0 on a penalty corner. Hoffman leads the team in scoring this year with nine goals and 23 points.
The honor is the second of the season for Hoffman, who also was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 18.
UNC is back in action on Saturday, hosting Louisville at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium in Durham. Game time is 1 p.m.
