Carolina Set To Kick Off NCAA Postseason

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The sixth-ranked North Carolina field hockey team opens NCAA Tournament play on Saturday, facing No. 15 Saint Joseph's in Charlottesville, Va. Game time is 11:30 a.m. and the action will be streamed live on the Virginia Cavaliers Facebook page.
The Tar Heels head into the NCAA postseason with a record of 16-4 following a title run at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship, which earned UNC an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. North Carolina is the No. 4 overall seed but is not hosting because it's without an on-campus facility this year. A new stadium is under construction and will be ready for play in August of 2018.
Carolina leads all schools in NCAA Tournament appearances – this is its 34th. The Tar Heels are six-time NCAA Champions and finished as the runner-up in 2015 and 2016.
The Saint Joseph's Hawks, champions of the Atlantic 10 Conference, are making their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. They come into the tournament with a record of 18-3 and are led in scoring by junior Anna Willocks (Palmterston North, New Zealand) and Quinn Maguire (Media, Pa.) with 18 goals each.
Saturday's game will be the first meeting between UNC and Saint Joseph's. Virginia and Princeton are meeting in the second of two first-round games being played at UVa's University Turf Field. The winners face off Sunday at 2 p.m. for a spot in the NCAA semifinals.
