Â
Chapel Hill – For the 10th consecutive year, supporters of the University of North Carolina baseball program will have the opportunity to kick off the upcoming season with a memorable evening at the Diamond Heels' First Pitch Dinner, scheduled for January 27 at the Carolina Club, George Watts Hill Alumni Center.
Â
This year's event will feature 18-year MLB veteran and former No. 1 overall draft pick BJ Surhoff. Surhoff was a two-time All-American at UNC, the 1985 Sporting News Player of the Year and ACC Athlete of the Year and was inducted in to the Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame in 2007.
Â
In addition to Surhoff, a number of former Tar Heel standouts are expected to be in attendance and we will be honoring the 40th anniversary of the 1978 team as well as the 10th anniversary of the 2008 team.
Â
The First Pitch Dinner will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a MVP Reception with Surhoff and a special Carolina baseball guest. The silent auction and meet and greet with the 2018 Tar Heels will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the dinner program and live auction starting at 6:30 p.m.
Silent auction items include an Andrew Miller signed MLB All-Star jersey, Matt Harvey, Andrew Miller and head coach Mike Fox signed baseballs, a UNC Nike baseball apparel package, two floor seats to a UNC Men's Basketball game and more.Â
Highlighting this years live auction are three MLB fan experiences from coast-to-coast. Choose between seeing Tar Heel alum Kyle Seager in Baltimore with two seats compliments of BJ Surhoff, two tickets to two games of a subway series in July to watch current Yankee Adam Warren take on Matt Harvey and the Mets, or if you're traveling to California for the Tar Heel football game against the Bears, couple it with a trip to San Francisco to watch the Giants take on Harvey's Mets. The live auction will also include a baseball experience for your son to be a Carolina baseball player for a day and a coaches box experience for you and seven friends to watch the conference game of your choice.Â
