
Three Tar Heels Earn All-America Honors

Hoffman and van't Hoog selected for first team.
Three field hockey juniors earned honors Tuesday as the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-America teams were announced. Defender Ashley Hoffman and midfielder Eva van't Hoog were named to the first team and midfielder Malin Evert was named to the third team.

Hoffman and van't Hoog bring the total number of Tar Heels earning first-team All-America honors in field hockey to 38, on 62 occasions.

The Tar Heel trio was among 48 players honored from DI schools across the nation. The selections span 25 programs. UNC was one of four schools to have more than one player on the 16-member first team. Â Including Carolina, there were six schools nationally that had three or more players honored on the first, second and third teams.

Evert, a sociology major from Bad Schwartau, Germany, started all season in the midfield. She finished with 11 goals, tied for the team lead, and 24 points. She was named second team All-ACC, All-ACC Tournament and All-NCAA Tournament.

Hoffman, a human development and family studies major from Mohnton, Pa., started at center back and tied with Evert for the team lead with 11 goals. She was the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and was named ACC Tournament MVP as the Tar Heels claimed the conference crown.

Van't Hoog, a communication studies major from Den Haag, Netherlands, started in the midfield and had seven goals and 12 assists. She also was named All-ACC, All-ACC Tournament and All-NCAA Tournament.
