GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Freshman right-hander Gianluca Dalatri was named to the 2017 All-ACC Academic Team, the league office announced Thursday. Dalatri, a native of Wall Township, New Jersey, went 7-3 with a 3.34 ERA across 15 starts in his rookie campaign.
A freshman All-American, Dalatri was a weekend starter from the opening series and pitched the bulk of the season as Carolina's No. 2 pitcher behind J.B. Bukauskas. He finished his first season in Chapel Hill with a team-best 97.0 innings of work, in which he struck out 85 batters and walked just 19.
Dalatri was one of 18 members of the All-ACC Academic Team to also earn All-ACC honors following the regular season.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
