GREENSBORO, NC. (theACC.com) – Duke freshman attacker Charlotte North has been named this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while North Carolina redshirt freshman goalie Taylor Moreno is this week's ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
North notched a program-record eight goals Saturday as the 21st-ranked Blue Devils downed Louisville. After matching Duke's single-game scoring record with a seven-goal performance against Boston University last week, North rattled off eight tallies and added one assist to tie the program record for the most points in a game. North secured her seventh hat trick of the season just 12 minutes into the contest. With 33 goals through seven contests, she ranks fourth on the Blue Devils' freshman scoring chart, trailing only Katie Chrest and Carolyn Davis (39) and Kelly Dirks (36).
Moreno made a season-high 17 saves in her first career start, helping the Tar Heels to a second-half comeback win at sixth-ranked Virginia on Saturday afternoon. After the Cavaliers led, 6-4, at halftime, Moreno made seven saves and allowed just three goals in the second half as UNC outscored UVA, 9-3. Moreno also gathered three ground balls.
