North Carolina is one of 74 teams announced Tuesday as recipients of the 2017 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award. The award recognizes programs that earned a team GPA of 3.0 or better during the 2017 fall semester.

The Tar Heels had a successful fall on and off the turf. In addition to the team award, six UNC student-athletes were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team, which takes into account both academic and athletic performance. Those honored were Marissa Creatore, Malin Evert, Morgan Goetz, Feline Guenther, Ashley Hoffman and Meredith Sholder. (The NFHCA National Academic Squad will be announced next week.)

On the turf, UNC finished 18-5, won the Atlantic Coast Conference championship and advanced to the final four for the ninth year in a row and the 22nd time in program history.
