No. 5 Tar Heels Visit No. 2 BC Saturday

• The North Carolina women's lacrosse team will play its third top-five-ranked opponent of the 2018 season when it visits No. 3/2 Boston College on Saturday at noon. The game will be played at BC's Newton Campus Soccer & Lacrosse Field in Newton, Mass.
• Saturday's game will be streamed live by ACC Network Extra.Â
• Carolina has won three games in a row, including an 18-13 win at ninth-ranked Northwestern last Saturday afternoon in Evanston, Ill.
• Carolina is ranked No. 5 this week in the IWLCA coaches poll and No. 5 in the Cascade media poll. Â
• The Eagles are ranked No. 3 and No. 2, respectively, in the same two polls. BC has won 11 consecutive games, the longest winning streak in its program's history.
• After Saturday's game, the Tar Heels will return home to host Virginia Tech and Notre Dame next week in Chapel Hill.
SERIES HISTORY VS. BOSTON COLLEGE
• Carolina leads the all-time series with Boston College, 15-2, and has won 12 of the last 13 meetings in the series.
• Last year, Carolina beat BC twice. In late March, Carolina beat BC, 15-13, in Chapel Hill behind three goals apiece from Marie McCool and Molly Hendrick. In the ACC Tournament semifinals in Richmond, UNC won, 17-14.
• In 2016, the Tar Heels won at Boston College, 13-12, in late March in the most recent meeting in the Boston area. Three years ago, the Eagles beat UNC, 10-9, in overtime in Chapel Hill.
• Boston College's only two wins over Carolina were a 5-4, double-overtime decision in 2008 and an overtime win in 2015.

• Second-ranked Carolina earned a top-20 win in beating No. 19 Boston College 15-13 on March 25. 2017, in Chapel Hill.Â
• Senior Molly Hendrick and junior Marie McCool led UNC with three goals each. Senior Sydney Holman, junior Ela Hazar and sophomore Kara Klages each scored two, and the Tar Heels got single goals from senior Sammy Jo Tracy, junior Maggie Bill and sophomore Caroline Wakefield.
2017 ACC TOURNAMENT VS. BC:
UNC 17, BC 14 (Richmond, Va., April 28, 2017)Â
• Top-seeded Carolina got five first-half goals from Molly Hendrick and went on a 7-0 run in a span of 7:25 in the first half, beating fifth-seeded Boston College, 17-14, on April 29, 2017, in the ACC Tournament semifinals in Richmond.
• In addition to the output from Hendrick, UNC got got three goals and two assists from Ela Hazar, two goals and three assists from Carly Reed and three goals from Marie McCool. Sydney Holman had a goal and two assists, while Sammy Jo Tracy, Caroline Wakefield and Gianna Bowe had single goals. Charlotte Sofield had an assist.
• BC got four goals from Sam Apuzzo, three goals and one assist from Kate Weeks and two goals and three assists from Kenzie Kent. Kaileen Hart and Dempsey Arsenault both scored twice, and Laura Frankenfield had a goal and an assist.

CAROLINA BEATS NORTHWESTERN, 18-13 (Saturday, March 17, 2018)
• Ela Hazar had a record-setting day as fourth-ranked North Carolina (6-2) beat ninth-ranked Northwestern, 18-13, on March 17 at Martin Stadium. • Hazar had eight assists for the Tar Heels, besting the previous single-game UNC record of six set by Amy Fine in 1997 and tied by Sydney Holman in 2014. Hazar also became the school's career leader in the category with 98, passing Becky Lynch, who had 92 assists from 2009-12.Â
• In addition to Hazar, the Tar Heels got big games from Katie Hoeg with four goals and three assists and Marie McCool with three goals, two assists and five draw controls. Jamie Ortega had three goals and an assist, Ally Mastroianni scored three times and Marisa DiVietro had two goals and an assist. Kara Klages, Gianna Bowe and Maggie Bill each scored once for the Tar Heels.
• Northwestern (5-3) got four goals each from Selena Lasota and Claire Quinn.
HAZAR NAMED ACC OFFENSIVEPLAYER OF THE WEEK
• Senior attacker Ela Hazar has been named the ACC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week on March 20.Â
• Hazar set a UNC program record with eight assists in Carolina's 18-13 win at ninth-ranked Northwestern on March 17. In the process, she also became Carolina's career assist leader with 98, eclipsing the previous record of 92 set by Becky Lynch from 2009-12. Hazar also had three goals and five assists in the March 13 12-1 win over Elon, along with two ground balls. For the week, Hazar tallied 16 points on three goals and 13 assists in two games.
 TAYLOR MORENO MAKES 17 SAVES AT VIRGINIA
• Redshirt freshman Taylor Moreno made her first career start in goal on March 10 at Virginia and posted a season-high 17 saves. Moreno went the distance in the cage and held the Cavaliers to three second-half goals as UNC overcame a 6-4 halftime deficit to win, 13-9, in Charlottesville.
• Moreno was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week on March 12 for her efforts.
McCOOL & TRENCHARD SWEEP ACC HONORS AFTER MARYLAND WIN
• Following an overtime win over top-ranked Maryland, North Carolina senior midfielder Marie McCool was named the ACC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate freshman defender Emma Trenchard was the ACC Defensive Player of the Week (February 27).
• McCool led UNC to a 16-15 overtime win over No. 1 Maryland with four goals, one assist, eight draw controls, two caused turnovers and a ground ball. McCool assisted on teammate Ela Hazar's game-tying goal with 22 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. In the extra period, she scored the game-winner off an assist from Jamie Ortega.Â
• Trenchard led a strong Tar Heel defensive effort, controlling four draws, collecting three ground balls and causing three turnovers. Trenchard controlled the draw to start overtime, then brought the ball into the offensive end to start the possession that included the game-winning goal by McCool. The Windsor, Conn., native helped guide a UNC defense that held Maryland scoreless for the final 9:25 of the game.
MARIE McCOOL BACK FOR MOREÂ AS A SENIOR
• Midfielder Marie McCool is among the most decorated players in the nation and is primed to earn more national honors as senior in 2018.
• She leads the Tar Heels with 31 goals, 36 points and 60 draw controls this season.Â
• The do-it-all McCool tied her career high with seven goals on Feb. 18 versus Liberty and controlled a career-high 13 draws on March 3 against Florida.
• McCool won ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Feb. 27 after tallying four goals, an assist and eight draw controls in UNC's win over Maryland.
• She was one of five 2017 finalists for the Tewaaraton Award, the highest individual honor in the sport, as well as one of four nominees for the 2017 Honda Award for Lacrosse. She is a two-time, first-team All-America and two-time, first-team All-ACC pick. She also was the 2017 ACC Midfielder of the Year and the 2017 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
• McCool also was one of just two college players on the United States National Team that won a gold medal at the World Cup in England in July of 2017.

BILL'S BACK
• Fifth-year senior midfielder Maggie Bill returned to the field for her first game action in nearly a year when she came off the bench to play against Florida on March 3.Â
• Bill, who suffered a lower leg injury on April 8 last year against Louisville, scored a goal against the Gators as she began to work her way back into the Tar Heel rotation.
CAROLINA HAS WON 24 OF LAST 25 VS. ACC
• Carolina has won 24 of its last 25 games against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, losing only to Syracuse in the 2017 regular season in Chapel Hill since the 2015 ACC Tournament final.
TAR HEELS ARE 40-5 IN LAST 45 GAMES
• The Tar Heels enter Saturday's game having won 40 of their last 45 games, dating back to early in the 2016 season.Â
