Tar Heels To Host Duke For Senior Day Saturday
April 18, 2018 | Women's Lacrosse
• The fifth-ranked North Carolina women's lacrosse team (11-3, 5-1 ACC) will wrap up its 2018 regular season schedule on Saturday when it hosts No. 22 Duke (7-7, 2-4) at 3 p.m. at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill.Â
• Saturday's game will be streamed live by ACC Network Extra.Â
• The contest will be Carolina's senior day, marking the final home regular season contest for Maggie Bill, Bridget Curran, Elizabeth Haus, Ela Hazar, Naomi Lerner and Marie McCool.
• The UNC women's lacrosse program also will host its annual Alumnae Weekend and name the winner of the Kellie Thompson Shiley Award for contributions to the program.
• The Tar Heels have won five games in a row and eight of their last nine.
• The contest against the Blue Devils will be the second half of a lacrosse doubleheader at Kenan Stadium on Saturday. At noon, the Tar Heel men will host Notre Dame in their regular season finale.
• Next weekend, UNC will make the short drive to Durham to try to win its third consecutive ACC championship at the ACC Tournament, to be held April 26-27-29 at Duke. The Tar Heels will be the No. 2 seed and will play the No. 7 seed at 5 p.m. on Thursday April 26.
• Carolina is ranked No. 5 this week in the IWLCA coaches poll and No. 5 in the Cascade media poll. the Tar Heels have been ranked fifth for each of the last five weeks.
• Duke is ranked No. 22 in the IWLCA poll and received votes in the media poll.

• Carolina leads the all-time series with Duke, 22-14, including seven consecutive Tar Heel wins.Â
• Last year, Carolina won 19-7 at Duke and 18-6 in the ACC Tournament quarterfinal in Richmond, Va.
• In 2016, the Tar Heels beat Duke three times, including 16-8 in Chapel Hill, 7-6 in the ACC Tournament semifinals and 15-10 in the NCAA Tournament. In 2015, UNC beat Duke in the regular season in Durham and in the NCAA Tournament semifinals in Chester, Pa. Â

2017 ACC TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINALS VS. THE BLUE DEVILS:
UNC 18, DUKE 6 (April 27, 2017)Â
• Top-seeded Carolina ran out to an 11-2 first half lead and beat Duke, 18-6, on April 27, 2017, in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals at Richmond Sports Backers Stadium. The Tar Heels got six points from Sydney Holman, four goals from Carly Reed and four assists from Marie McCool in a balanced attack.
• Carolina went on to win its second consecutive ACC championship three days later.
2017 REGULAR SEASON IN DURHAM:
UNC 19, DUKE 7 (April 22, 2017)Â
• Molly Hendrick scored a career-high seven goals as Carolina Duke, 19-7, on April 22, 2017, in Durham in the regular season finale for both teams.Â
• The Tar Heel win gave Carolina the outright ACC regular season championship for the third year in a row. Â
• In addition to Hendrick's seven goals, Carolina got two goals and four assists from Sydney Holman, three goals and one assist from Caroline Wakefield and two goals and 11 draw controls from Sammy Jo Tracy, who broke her own school record for most draw controls in a season. Carly Reed, Marie McCool and Ela Hazar all had a goal and an assist, and Katie Hoeg and Gianna Bowe added single goals.
LAST TIME OUT:
TAR HEELS BLITZ CANISIUS, 22-3 (Sunday, April 15, 2018)
• Carolina scored the final 14 goals of the game and rolled past Canisius by a 22-3 score on April 15 at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, N.Y.
• Ela Hazar led the Tar Heels with four goals and three assists, with Katie Hoeg adding two goals and four assists and Gianna Bowe chipping in three goals and two assists. Kara Klages (two goals and two assists) and Maggie Bill (three goals and one assist) each had four points, while Jamie Ortega, Marie McCool and Olivia Ferrucci each had two goals and one assist. Taylor McDaniels and Ally Mastroianni also scored for Carolina.
HAZAR IS THE FIRST TAR HEEL EVERÂ TO COMPILE 100 CAREER ASSISTS
• Hazar became the first UNC player ever to record 100 career assists on March 28 when she tallied her 100th against Virginia Tech.Â
• Hazar holds Carolina records for most assists in a game (eight), a season (40, in 2017) and a career (110).Â
• She needs five assists to break her own UNC single-season record of 40, set last year.
• Hazar set the UNC career record on March 17 at Northwestern, snapping the previous record of 92 set by Becky Lynch (2009-12).Â
• Hazar also set a school single-game record with eight assists in the same, 18-13 win at Northwestern on March 17. Â
• She was a 2018 Midseason All-America by ILWomen.com. She leads the ACC and is ninth in the nation in assists and assists per game.
MARIE McCOOL BACK FOR MOREÂ AS A SENIOR
• Midfielder Marie McCool is among the most decorated players in the nation and was a 2018 Midseason All-America by ILWomen.com.
• She has a team-high 44 goals, 104 draw controls and 16 caused turnovers this season, as well as 54 points. She ranks fifth in the nation and second in the ACC in draw controls per game.
• The do-it-all McCool tied her career high with seven goals on Feb. 18 versus Liberty and controlled a career-high 13 draws on March 3 against Florida.
• McCool won ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Feb. 27 after tallying four goals, an assist and eight draw controls in UNC's win over Maryland.
• She was one of five 2017 finalists for the Tewaaraton Award, the highest individual honor in the sport, as well as one of four nominees for the 2017 Honda Award for Lacrosse. She is a two-time, first-team All-America and two-time, first-team All-ACC pick. She also was the 2017 ACC Midfielder of the Year and the 2017 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
• McCool was one of just two college players on the United States National Team that won a gold medal at the World Cup in England in July of 2017.
