No. 8 Carolina Sweeps Georgia Tech, Tied For First In ACC

Chapel Hill – No. 8 North Carolina defeated Georgia Tech 10-3 on Sunday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium, completing the sweep of the Yellow Jackets for the first time since 1996. Cooper Criswell picked up his third win of the season after tossing a career-high seven innings only surrendering one run on four hits while striking out five.
Carolina scored runs in the bottom of the second and third innings to take an early 3-0 lead over Georgia Tech. In the second inning, a Cody Roberts RBI double scored Jackson Hesterlee from second base for the first run of the game before Zack Gahagan followed with a RBI single of his own for the 2-0 advantage.
In the third inning, Michael Busch added to his team leading home run count with a blast to right field for his 10th long ball of the season to make it 3-0.
Georgia Tech answered quickly with a run in the top of the fourth to make it 3-1, but in the bottom of the seventh inning the Tar Heels broke the game open by scoring seven runs to take a 10-1 lead.
Gahagan got things started for Carolina with a two-run home run off the left field foul pole for his fourth of the year to make the score 5-1. A sacrifice fly from Brandon Riley scored Dallas Tessar from third base before a pair two-RBI doubles from Ike Freeman and Cody Roberts plated four more Tar Heels.
This is the third straight ACC series win for the Tar Heels as they move to 27-13 on the year and sit in first place in the Coastal Division with a 15-6 record and are tied for first place in the ACC overall with NC State.
Carolina will be back in action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET as they host Coastal Carolina. The game can be seen on ESPNU.
