Baseball Completes Road Sweep Of No. 23 Notre Dame, 15-10
March 29, 2026 | Baseball
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – An explosive offense carried Carolina baseball to a 15-10 win over their hosts No. 23 Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon in Franck Eck Stadium.
The No. 13 Tar Heels (24-4-1 , 9-3 ACC) picked up their second road ACC series sweep in as many opportunities with Sunday's victory. It is the first time since 2017 that the program has taken all three away from home two different times in the same season and only the second time since the three game formatting began in 1990 that they've swept their first two conference road series of the year.
Jake Schaffner was the star of the show for Carolina offensively. The Heels' leadoff man started the day strong with a solo home run in the game's first at-bat and followed that up with two doubles and a walk. He finished with a season-high five RBIs to help his team come out on top of a slugfest.
From the leadoff to the nine hole, Carter French bookended the UNC lineup opposite of Schaffner by going 2-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. His single in the fifth scored a pair and put a big exclamation mark on an eight run inning for Carolina that essentially won them the game.
It was an effective day at the plate for the entirety of the Carolina offense. All nine batters logged at least one hit with five getting multiple. The Heels put up 41 hits across the three games in South Bend, their most in a weekend since May 2024 against Louisville and the most on the road since putting up 45 against Boston College in 2017.
Timely hitting was the name of the game all weekend, as Carolina found itself in back-and-forth games against a Notre Dame team that came in red-hot fresh off a sweep of Clemson and a jump into the top-25 polls. In total, there were five ties and 14 lead changes between the two teams.
Having thrown only six arms in two games on Saturday, head coach Scott Forbes had a deep bullpen at his disposal on Sunday and he made sure to use it. Six Tar Heel arms took the mound in the series finale, highlighted the only two to have thrown the day before.
Camron Seagraves, one day removed from easily his best outing of 2026, was excellent again in his 2.2 innings of action. The sophomore flamethrower picked up the win thanks to some clean living, no hits and no runs with two strikeouts.
The game's finisher was the rookie Caden Glauber, who only allowed two hits in 1.2 shutout frames to pick up his third save of the year. Last year, Walker McDuffie became the first Tar Heel freshman to lead the team in saves since eventual big leaguer Trent Thornton did it in 2013. Glauber is on pace to make that two years in a row.
The Tar Heels will have no time to rest on their laurels, as they prepare to welcome another red-hot ball club in Campbell to Boshamer Stadium on Tuesday night. It will be the team's second ACC Network appearance of the season with first pitch set for 8 p.m. ET.
