Marc Schwartz was named the men's tennis assistant coach in September 2000 by Head Coach Sam Paul. Schwartz came to Chapel Hill from the Evert Tennis Academy in Boca Raton, Florida, where he served as tournament coordinator and college recruitment advisor.
In his first year at Carolina Schwartz worked with a team that finished second in the Atlantic Coast Conference and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons.
At the Evert Tennis Academy, Schwartz acted as a traveling coach for top junior and tour players. Previously, Schwartz served as the head tennis pro for the Eagle Trace Country Club in Coral Springs, Florida. In each of these positions, Schwartz was also a top instructor for private group and individual lessons.
A native of Ohio, Schwartz is a former world-ranked ATP player. Schwartz's collegiate tennis experience came at the University of Toledo, where he played and graduated in 1993 with an accounting degree. Growing-up, Schwartz was the top-ranked junior in the state of Ohio and a top ranked sectional player in the state of Florida. Schwartz is also a current member of the USPTA and is an avid triathlete.
