2021 College Basketball Hall of Fame inductee. Unanimous National Player of the Year in 1998. Second Tar Heel (with Lennie Rosenbluth) and third player in ACC history (also Christian Laettner) to be named ACC Player of the Year, ACC Tournament MVP, NCAA Regional MVP and National Player of the Year in the same season.
Scored 822 points, the second-highest figure in UNC history, and grabbed a single-season UNC-record (since broken) 389 rebounds. Averaged 22.2 points and 10.5 rebounds in 1998, the first double-double by a Tar Heel since Mitch Kupchak in 1976. ACC Male Athlete of the Year. First ACC player ever to earn first-team All-ACC honors as a freshman, sophomore and junior. Led UNC to ACC Tournament titles and Final Fours in 1997 and 1998. First freshman to ever lead the ACC in field goal percentage. Had 20 rebounds at Virginia as a freshman. Averaged 30.3 points and 12.0 rebounds in three home wins over Duke. Overcame a leg injury to tally 22 points and 18 rebounds in the 1998 ACC final versus Duke. Still top 10 at UNC in career rebounds (1,027) and scoring (1,974).
NBA All-Star in 2005 and 2008. Played 16 seasons in the NBA. Scored 20,042 career points. One of 50 players in NBA history to score 20,000 points.
