2017— Hayley Carter: Women's Tennis (Hilton Head, S.C.)
Carter won 168 singles matches, the most in ACC women’s tennis history, and was a seven-time ITA All-America (four times in singles, three times in doubles), two-time ACC Player of the Year, two-time ACC Championship MVP, four-time first-team All-ACC and 2017 ITA Senior Player of the Year. The Hilton Head, S.C., native also was a first-team Academic All-America and ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2016 and 2017 and earned induction into Phi Beta Kappa.
Carter was the first women’s tennis player to be named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, ACC Player of the Year and ACC Tournament MVP in consecutive seasons.
She finished her career 168-25 in singles and 126-23 in doubles. She led the Tar Heels to a four-year record of 123-14, 53-3 in ACC regular-season play, four regular-season ACC titles, two ACC Tournament championships, three NCAA Tournament top-eight finishes, including second in 2014, and the 2015 ITA Indoor national championship.
As a senior, Carter went 28-0 at No. 1 singles in dual matches (13-0 in ACC play and 38-4 in singles overall). She finished the year ranked No. 3 in the nation, the third time in four seasons she was ranked among the top three players in the country. She teamed with Jessie Aney in doubles, winning a national championship in the fall at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship. The duo spent over eight weeks as the No. 1 ranked team in the country, finishing the season at No. 5.
Carter won the 2016 Oracle/ITA Masters mixed doubles title with Georgia Tech’s Chris Eubanks and led Team USA to the 2016 Master’U BNP Paribas championship in France.
She plays professionally and has been an assistant coach at Oklahoma State and Vanderbilt.
