Tar Heel Volleyball Takes Down Florida State

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The North Carolina volleyball team continued their stellar performance in the ACC by sweeping (15-6, 15-5, 15-13) Florida State in Carmichael Auditorium Friday. The win improves the Tar Heels record to 23-5 overall, 13-2 in the ACC.
Casey Simpson had an outstanding match, recording 15 kills with only one error on 20 attempts for a .700 hitting percentage. Tori Seibert added seven kills with a .462 percentage and Shannon Smith had six kills, six service aces and four blocks. The six service aces give Smith a total of 11 in the last to matches.
The Tar Heels opened the match on an 8-0 run and the Seminoles were not able to recover. Both teams hit a high percentage with UNC out-hitting FSU .536 to .440 in the game.
In game two, Carolina scored the first three points, only to see Florida State answer with five consecutive of its own. However, those were the only points Florida State would score in the game as UNC completed the game on a 12-0 run.
In game three, the Tar Heels took leads of 7-2 and 12-5 and appeared to have the match well in hand, before Florida State came charging back on a 7-0 run to tie the game. However, the Seminoles could never take the lead and Carolina finished the match at 15-13.
Norisha Campbell led Florida State with 13 kills and setter Jamie Hibbard contributed 28 assists and 8 digs. Dawn Hough had a big night at the net with five blocks, however, for the match, the Tar Heels out-hit the Seminoles .262 to .137.
UNC will next host the Virginia Cavaliers for "Senior Night" at Carmichael Auditorium in the last regular-season home match of the season Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
