Carolina Freshman Advances To Main Draw At ITA Reginals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - After two victories in Thursday's qualifying draw, North Carolina freshman Kendrick Bunn advances to Friday's main draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Indoor Championships in Winston-Salem.
Bunn, a Wilson native, defeated Mami Inone of East Tennessee State (6-0, 6-1) and Furman's Gene Holman (6-4, 6-4) to move on to Friday's competition. She will take on Kentucky's Sarah Witten in the opening round of the main draw.
Raleigh senior Jeni Burnette bested Judit Trunkos of Winthrop (6-2, 6-4) in the first round of qualifying before withdrawing from the competition.
Also competing in Friday's singles main draw are freshman Marlene Mejia of Lansdale, Pa., the No. 8 seed, and freshman Kate Pinchbeck, of Edmondson Park, Australia, who is unseeded.
Mejia and Bay Head, N.J., junior Erin Niebling are seeded eighth in the doubles draw. The duo of Bunn and Pinchbeck will also compete but is unseeded.
