Women's Golf Unable to Complete Mercedes-Benz Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - North Carolina's women's golf team finished in 17th place at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championships. The Tar Heels were unable to complete the 54-hole tournament after two players had to withdraw for medical reasons. Duke won the team title after firing the low round on the last day of 291 to finish with an 892 total. Tulsa finished 13 strokes back in second place at 905. Georgia tallied a third-place at 908 while the Swedish National Team finished fourth at 910 and Auburn finished fifth at 914.
Stacy Prammanasudh of Tulsa captured the individual title with a two-over-par 218 total and defeated Laura Henderson of Georgia, who also finished at 218, in a playoff. Robin Cook of Auburn finished third at 220 while Niina Laitinen of Tulsa finished fourth at 221 and two players, Duke's Beth Bauer and Sweden's Marie Hedberg, tied for fifth place with 222 totals.
For the Tar Heels, Cuyler Buckles tied for 28th place with a 231 total. Shelley McKevitt tied for 37th with a 234 total while Heather Angell tied for 57th at 242. Marcy Newton withdrew all three rounds after spraining an ankle and Kim Smith withdrew from the final round with back problems.
The 54-hole event was played at the Gettysvue Polo, Golf & Country Club which features a par 72, 5,985-yard layout.
