Carolina To Face Stanford Saturday At 6:00 P.M. EDT

North Carolina will face the Stanford Cardinal at 6:00 p.m. EDT Saturday in a winner's bracket game in the Palo Alto Regional at the Sunken Diamond in Palo Alto, Calif.
Carolina took a thrilling, 8-5 win over Nevada in 12 innings in Friday's first game, while the Cardinal took an easy 10-2 win over Loyola Marymount in the nightcap.
Cardinal starter Jason Young tossed a complete game, giving up two earned runs on six hits while striking out seven. Stanford was led offensively by Joe Borchard, who was 2-3 with a homer and three runs scored, while Nick Day added three RBI with a 2-4 performance.
orchard, Stanford's leading hitter with a .393 batting average, leads the Cardinal in hits with 84. Borchard, a 6-4, 195 sophomore right fielder, had 12 doubles, nine home runs and 61 RBI entering the regional.
Third baseman Josh Hochgesang, a 6-3, 215 senior from Fullerton, Calif. is Stanford's best power hitter. Hochgesang leads the Cardinal in home runs with 16 and RBI with 65. Hochgesang also leads Stanford in doubles with 16, runs scored with 60 and slugging percentage with .647.
Seven Stanford players are batting over .300, while the team batting average is .312.
Defensively, the Cardinal are led by starting pitchers Jason Young and Justin Wayne. Young entered the tournament with a 9-3 record and 3.46 ERA, while Wayne is 8-1 with a 5.16 ERA. Reliever Tony Cogan (6-3) hase a team-high seven saves to go with his 3.24 ERA. The Stanford staff's ERA is 4.47.
The Cardinal finished the regular season 43-13 overall record while going 19-5 in the Pacific 10. Stanford was 25-6 at the Sunken Diamond and 18-7 in road games.
Kyle Snyder (7-5, 4.04 ERA) will be on the mound for Carolina, while Justin Wayne (8-1, 5.16 ERA) will start for Stanford.
