Women's Golf Places Fifth at Rain-Shortened Lady Gamecock

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. - North Carolina's women's golf team placed fifth this weekend in the Lady Gamecock Classic after rain canceled the final round. A second storm at 2:30 p.m., which followed an earlier storm that caused a 90 minute delay, eliminated the final round at the University Club. Duke paced itself from the rest of the field winning the tournament by 15 strokes over host South Carolina. Furman finished third at 610, while Louisiana State scored 611 and North Carolina rounded out the top five with a score of 616.
Jenny Chuasiriporn of Duke ran away with medalist honors winning with a score of 136, ten strokes better than Carolina's Marcy Newton. Emma Lofgren of South Carolina finished third at 147, while Beth Bauer and Kalen Anderson, both of Duke, scored 148 and a tie for fourth place.
Among other North Carolina individuals, Heather Angell shot a 153 total and a tie for 17th place, while Shelley McKevitt tied for 39th place with a 158 total. Cuyler Buckles finished in 59th place with a 159 total and Beth Lever scored a 166 and a tie for 60th place.
