Tar Heels Beat UNCG, 35-3 in Wrestling Match

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - No. 23-ranked UNC Chapel Hill downed UNCG 35-3 in a non-conference wrestling match Tuesday at Fleming Gym, winning nine out of 10 bouts. The Tar Heels, who have won five consecutive dual matches, recorded two victories by fall as Chuckie Connor defeated Kevin Bradley in 2:37 at 125, and Jamie Groudle defeated Mike Lowery in 3:46 at 174. Connor is ranked number five nationally in his weight class. JohnMark Bentley, ranked number nine nationally, defeated Melvin Saunders of UNCG 8-2 at 149.
Saunders was one of four Spartans qualifying for last year's NCAA Tournament. UNCG's lone winner was Greg Forbes at 197, who won 7-4 by decision.
UNCG, now 0-1, next wrestles at Campbell Friday at 4 pm in a non-conference match. UNC, now 8-2, hosts No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State Sunday.
