Women's Golf Tied for Tenth at East Regional

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. - The University of North Carolina's women's golf team is tied for 10th place with a 607 total (308-299) after two rounds of the NCAA East Regional. Furman leads the field of 19 teams with a 583 total. Louisiana State is eight strokes back in second place at 591 while Georgia is third at 594 and Duke is fourth at 597. The Tar Heels look to make up ground in Saturday's final round as only the top eight teams and top two individuals (not on one of those eight teams) advance on to the NCAA Championships.
A trio of players are tied for the individual lead at two-under-par 142 -- Furman's Jennifer Perri and Stacey Burnett and Louisiana State's Lisette Lee. Beth Bauer of Duke is two shots back alone in fourth place with an even par 144 total.
Junior Marcy Newton, from High Point, N.C., is the low Tar Heel with a 149 total and is tied for 20th place after rounds of 74-75. Shelley McKevitt is tied for 42nd place with a 152 total while Heather Angell and Cuyler Buckles are tied for 50th at 153 and Beth Lever is tied for 86th at 160.
The 54-hole event is being played at The University Club which features a par 72, 6,059-yard layout. The tournament concludes Saturday.
