Semmes Named ACC Softball Player of the Week

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Sophomore shortstop Michelle Semmes has earned ACC Player of the Week honors in softball after batting .615 in Carolina's four games last week. Semmes was 8-for-13 at the plate, with a double, a triple and three RBI.
For the season, Semmes leads the Tar Heels in batting with a .391 average, second best in the ACC. As a team, Carolina leads the conference in batting with a team average of .307. The Tar Heels also lead the ACC in scoring (4.71 runs per game) and fielding (.969 percentage).
Other Tar Heels in the ACC rankings: freshman Natalie Anter is tied for the home run lead with seven and second in RBI with 36 (.75 per game); junior Crystal Henderson is fourth in doubles with nine (.21 per game), tied for third in triples with three (.07 per game) and second in stolen bases (24 of 25, .56 per game); and sophomore pitcher Radara McHugh is fourth in ERA at 1.88.
The Tar Heels, 32-18 on the season, host South Florida for a doubleheader on Friday at Finley Field. The first game begins at 2 p.m.
