
No. 27 Tar Heels Fall to Wake Forest

WINSTON SALEM N.C. - The 17th-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team won four of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches, to earn a 6-2 win over the 27th-ranked University of North Carolina Wednesday afternoon.
After winning the doubles point, the Deacon women went on to win singles victories at numbers one, two, three and five. Wake Forest's Mariel Verban defeated UNC's Jessica Zaganczyk at #1, while the Deacon's Janet Bergman and Annemarie Milton posted wins in straight sets at numbers two and five respectively. Maren Halls defeated Tar Heel Senior Co-Captain Sarah Hawkins in three sets 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The win moves Wake Forest's record to 8-8 on the season, while Coach Roland Thornqvist's Tar Heels fall to 11-5. The Heels got singles victories from juniors Cena Hackler at #4 and Jeni Burnette at #6.
Carolina's next match will be Saturday, April 3, when it hosts the #20 Florida State Seminoles at 11 a.m. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
