Tar Heels Take Second at Governor's Cup

Raleigh, NC. - The University of North Carolina Gymnastics team claimed second place at the Governor's Cup with a final score of 193.325. Host North Carolina State edged out the Tar Heels for first place with a final score of 193.550. Maryland took third with a team score of 193.200 and Towson rounded out the four team field with a final score of 192.875. Carolina sophomore Brooke Wilson once again proved to be a key Carolina performer. For the second time this season, Wilson claimed the all-around title with a final score of 38.900. Wilson placed in three of four events finishing sixth on vault (9.700), third on bars (9.725) and fifth on beam (9.775). Tar Heel junior Julie Pasqualini had a strong showing on floor finishing with a 9.750, good for fifth place. Erica Roberts placed fifth on beam with a 9.775 total and Jennifer DeLuca continued her dominance on the uneven bars finishing third with a 9.725. DeLuca also earned the highest individual score of all Tar Heels at the meet earning a 9.800 and second place on the vault. North Carolina State dominated both the balance beam and floor exercise to claim the overall meet title. Wolfpack gymnasts Maggie Haney, Monica Berry and Kara Charles finished in a three-way tie for first on the balance beam with a 9.800. Haney, Stephanie Flanagan, Amy Langendorf and Kelli Brown also claimed the top four spots on the floor. The Tar Heels are in action next when they meet James Madison Friday, Feb. 12 at 7:00 p.m.
