Tar Heels Host Clemson In Home Opener

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina men's soccer team hosts its 1999 home opener Saturday evening when it hosts Atlantic Coast Conference rival Clemson Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Fetzer Field. Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for senior citizens and students. Carolina students and children under 12 will be admitted free of charge.
Carolina, coming off a 5-0 win at Campbell Wednesday night, enters the game with a 2-1 record. The Tar Heels split a pair of games at the Diadora Creighton Classic in Omaha, Neb. Carolina downed Bradley, 3-1, in their season opener last Saturday and fell, 3-0, to No. 7-ranked Creighton on Sunday.
Clemson comes to Chapel Hill with a 1-2 record. The Tigers were ranked No. 4 in the preseason polls but fell out of the national polls after losing their first two games of the year to Dvidson and No. 20 Penn State. The Tigers defeated Ohio State, 2-1, on Sunday.
Carolina is led by sophomore forward Chris Carrieri, the 1998 ACC Rookie of the Year. Carrieri leads the Tar Heels with seven points this season on three goals and an assist. He had two goals in the win at Campbell.
