CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina volunteer assistant baseball coach Scott Forbes has been named the Coastal Plain League's 1999 Coach of the Year after leading the Wilmington Sharks to the CPL championship over the summer.
In his first season coaching in the CPL, Forbes's Wilmington team finished with the summer league's best overall record, 33-16, in addition to defeating the Outer Banks Daredevils for the team's second consecutive CPL title. The Sharks's 33 wins set the league record for most victories in a season.
Forbes is in his second season at Carolina, having previously served under Tar Heel head coach Mike Fox as a catching and hitting instructor at North Carolina Weslyan College during the 1998 season. As a player at N.C. Wesylan from 1995-97, Forbes hit .321 and helped lead the Battling Bishops to two Dixie Conference championships and the 1997 Division III College World Series.
