
Carolina Volleyball Falls to 9th ranked Gators

Gainesville,Fla. -- The University of North Carolina volleyball team lost to 9th ranked Florida Gators 3-0(15-9, 15-7, 15-4)Wednesday night(Oct. 4)in Gainesville, Fla. The Gators(12-3) ended the Tar Heels five game streak outhitting the Tar Heels .064 to .233.
Although Carolina posted more kills than Florida, 45 versus 43, the Tar Heels were plagued by errors totalling 36 on 140 attempts for the match. Casey Simpson and Laura Greene led the team with 13 kills apiece and seven and nine digs respectively. Eve Rackham registered 38 assists and six digs and Krista Buchholz tallied eight kills and 4 blocks.
In games one and two, the Gators did not appear to fair much better than Carolina averaging a .189 hitting percentage . However UNC posted a season low .040 hitting percentage and were marred by service and reception errors. Florida faired better in game three and was able to keep Carolina to a total four points to win 15-4.
The Gators were led by Aury Cruz who posted a double-double 14 kills and 10 digs. Nicole McCray added 10 kills and Niki Hartley registered a match-high 14 digs.
Carolina heads directly to Maryland where they will face the Terrapins Friday night at 7:30pm. The Tar Heels will continue their road trip ending at Virginia to square off against the Cavaliers Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
