
No. 2 North Carolina Advances To Finals With Victory Over No. 6 Virginia

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The No. 2 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the No. 6 seeded Virginia Cavaliers in three games to advance to the finals of the 2000 Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Championship held on the campus of Wake Forest University. The Tar Heels defeated the Cavaliers 15-6, 15-10 and 15-10, improving their record to 25-7, while Virginia dropped to 16-15 on the season.
Pacing North Carolina was sophomore outside hitter Laura Greene who recorded a match-high 14 kills along with seven digs and a .417 hitting percentage. Sophomore Eve Rackham recorded 46 assists in the contest while picking up 11 digs from the setter position. As a team, the Tar Heels finished the contest with 55 kills, 54 digs and 16 total blocks.
For the Cavaliers, senior middle hitter Deanna Zwarich tallied a 11 kills while setter Abby Whittenburg finished the match with 35 assists. Team totals for Virginia were 42 kills, 43 digs and 39 assists in the five game match.
North Carolina advances to Sunday's ACC Championship match where they will face the No. 5 seeded Duke Blue Devils. The championship match will be played at 3:30 pm and will be aired live on Home Team Sports.
