TarHeelBlue: Would you comment on Eric Henderson's performance today?
Coach Fox:
"Obviously, Eric was outstanding today, giving up just two hits.
More importantly, whenever he got behind today he came back and made
some real quality pitches. We got a couple of double play balls when they
had men on first and second with no outs.
"To me that's a sign that a guy's doing a good job. Eric just knows how to pitch. He's very mature and knows what he's doing.
"I don't let too many pitchers go complete games. I just don't do that, but something just told me to leave him in. He had a low pitch count, and he'd done so well, I just wanted him to finish."
TarHeelBlue: How's Derrick DePriest's sore arm?
Coach Fox:
"I think Derrick's working his way back slowly. He threw in the bullpen yesterday,
but we want to take it easy with him.
"I don't want to rush him back too soon. We want to have him for that ACC stretch."
TarHeelBlue: Please comment on Sean Farrell's play this year.
Coach Fox:
"Sean loves to play this game, it shows every time he's out here. He's a battler, and
he's playing with some confidence now. He had success early, and as a freshman that
gives you the confidence to believe you can play at this level.
"He's got savvy combined with a great deal of intensity and enthusiasm. He's always on his toes and doesn't take anything for granted. He plays the game like I think it should be played. No question he's been a big plus for us."
TarHeelBlue: Assess your team's overall performance so far this season.
Coach Fox:
"We've been able to come out and play hard every day. I thought we played about as
well as we could play today. We got contributions from everybody, one through nine
in the order either got a hit or made a critical defensive play, plus we got
great pitching.
"That's probably been the key to our season so far. We really haven't had a bad game, where we just haven't hit or haven't pitched, or just kicked the ball around. We have not had a bad game. Knock on wood.
"Bad games will happen though, we play too many games for them not to happen. We know it's coming, we just don't think it's coming in waves. We're playing with too much confidence now.
"The key is going to be how we respond when we do lose, because that's going to happen. I do think we will respond well when it does happen.
"To me the mark of a team's maturity is how you respond after a loss. The key is to not lose two in a row. I do think we will respond well whenever we do lose."
