UNC Softball Splits Pair At Coastal Carolina

The UNC softball team split a pair of games in Conway, S.C., on Sunday, topping host Coastal Carolina 1-0 and losing to College of Charleston 5-0. Carolia is now 16-5 on the season.
In the first game, the Tar Heels scored the game's lone run in the top of the sixth, when junior shortstop Michelle Semmes tripled to right then scored on a single by sophomore Kelly Ramsey. Semmes accounted for two of Carolina's five hits. Junior pitcher Radara McHugh gave up two hits and struck out six in picking up her seventh win of the season. Lauren Yates took the loss for Coastal Carolina.
In UNC's second game, Charleston scored four runs in the bottom of the first on a grand slam by Jacklyn Mariner and added another in the fifth to earn the win. Senior Jen Klesaris and junior Beth Olen both went 2-for-3 at the plate and Ramsey added Carolina's other hit. Freshman Stacy Fox took the loss for UNC.
The games scheduled for Saturday against Charleston and Coastal Carolina were rained out.
The Tar Heels' next action is on Thursday, when they begin play in the Speedline Tournament in Tampa, Fla.
