CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina men's soccer team is a combined 3-0-3 this spring going into the last game on Wednesday, April 19th, against the Raleigh Capital Express pro team. In recent weeks, UNC has continued its spring soccer season in Richmond, Va., Chapel Hill, and Jacksonville, N.C.
On March 26, the Tar Heels tied the Richmond Kickers of the A-League 1-1 in Richmond. Caleb Norkus gave the Heels the lead after five minutes. The Kickers equalized with minutes to go in the 105-minute match.
On April 2nd, Carolina hosted a mini tournament at Finley Fields in Chapel Hill. UNC managed a 3-1 win over the Mountaineers of West Virginia University and drew 0-0 with the Greensboro Dynamo, a DIII Pro Soccer Leaugue team, in the second match of that day for both teams.
On Sunday, April 9th, the Carolina men visited Jacksonville, N.C., played two 60-minute matches and conducted a youth clinic for the local soccer club, Jacksonville United. In both games, the 2-0 win over Gardner-Webb University and a 2-2 tie with Old Dominon University, UNC looked terrific and sloppy at times. Chris Carrieri scored one goal in each match while Noz Yamauchi and Caleb Norkus helped out with one apiece. Brad Thomas and Danny Jackson stood out defensively on that day.
