CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - In its final home match of the season, North Carolina's women's tennis team fell to Wake Forest, the nation's second-ranked team, Thursday by a score of 8-1 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The lone Tar Heel to earn a victory was freshman Kendrick Bunn, who continued her strong play with a hard-fought, comeback win at No. 4 singles over the Deacs' Maren Haus (4-6, 6-3, 6-0). The win was Bunn's fifth in a row and 19th on the season.
Wake Forest, boasting four of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's top 100 singles players on its roster, claimed the five other singles matches, as well as the three doubles points.
The loss, Carolina's third consecutive, drops the No. 38 Tar Heels to 9-11 on the season and 2-5 in the ACC. Wake Forest moves to 17-1 and 6-0 in conference play with the victory.
UNC's final regular-season match is Sunday when the Heels travel to Durham to take on No. 12 Duke at 1 p.m.
