Carolina Crew Finishes Third At ACC Championship

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - In the inaugural Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Championship, the 24th ranked University of North Carolina finished third overall, behind a commanding performance by the University of Virginia. The Cavaliers won the second varsity four, the varsity four, the second varsity eight and the first varsity eight. The Tar Heels took home third place finishes in the varsity four, second varsity eight and varsity eight, and fourth place in the second varsity four.
In the varsity eight petite final, the Tar Heels narrowly edged Duke, 6:58.6to 7:00.2. The UNC boat defeated the Blue Devils in the petite final of the second varsity eight, finishing in 7:17.7 to Duke's 7:21.7. The Tar Heels also cruised to a commanding win in the first varsity four petite final, finishing well ahead of Duke, 7:55.6 to 8:34.5. In the second varsity four petite finals, North Carolina fell to Duke, 8:18.2 to 8:29.1.
The Tar Heels' Dana Peirce and Erin Neppel were named to the All Atlantic Coast Conference team.
